For 15 years as an elected School Trustee, I’ve had the responsibility of making decisions about something that belongs to all of us — public money.
As Chair of the Finance and Planning Committee during the 2026–2027 budget process, our Board faced a projected $4.2 million shortfall.
Despite those challenges, we balanced the approximately $400 million dollar budget. We did this by streamlining operations and finding efficiencies.
For me, balancing a budget isn’t simply about making the numbers add up. It means doing the work:
Read the reports and understand
the numbers.
Ask thoughtful and sometimes
difficult questions.
Listen to the public and
understand their priorities.
Look for efficiencies and carefully
consider the options.
Consider both the immediate and long-term consequences.
Make evidence-based decisions you can stand behind.
After serving as Chair of Finance and Planning, Chair of Finance and Audit, Board Chair, Vice Chair and Chair of every Board committee numerous times each, one principle has remained constant:
Every dollar matters because it belongs to the public.
That same principle should apply at City Hall. Residents deserve elected representatives who come prepared, understand the financial information in front of them, ask questions, look for efficiencies and respect the taxpayers who ultimately fund our public services.

WHY EXPERIENCE MATTERS
Kelowna Residents don’t experience government in silos.
The new Burtch Road middle school, the Apple Bowl improvements and construction of the new Parkinson Recreation Centre are a perfect example.
The School District and City of Kelowna may have different responsibilities, budgets and timelines — but residents experience the combined impact: construction, traffic, parking and access.
And they are asking fair questions about how all of these projects will work together.
After 15 years as an elected School Trustee in this school district, I understand how complex major capital projects can be. As Chair of the Finance and Planning Committee, we have advocated for and strategized on capital planning, priorities, budgets, and public consultations.
I’ve learned that good governance means more than looking at one project at a time.
It means connecting the dots, asking the right questions, anticipating impacts and making sure organizations communicate with each other and with the public.
Kelowna needs new schools. We need modern recreation and arts facilities. We need investments in community infrastructure.
But as we grow, we also need elected representatives who can see the bigger picture.
That’s the experience I will bring to Kelowna City Council.
